Filming Day!

Today was the very first day shooting video for our commercial. In addition to preparing our items for filming, my group also reviewed the storyboard carefully in order to visualize what we would be doing outside. When we arrived in the school patio, we had established that Lucy and Willow would be actors, Kai would be filming, and I would provide any support needed as well as input. When proceeding with the filming, I had provided the laptop that Lucy (the first appearing actor) was going to be using in the shot. I had made sure that the scene looked natural, and in the first shot my team had decided it would be better to have some people in the background. After being of some assistance in that shot, I provided some directing by suggesting what route Lucy should take for the tracking shot, and how the actor (Willow) in the background should be positioned. After Kai filmed Willow listening to music, it was suggested that I should be in another shot to give the scene a more natural presence. Filming wasn't an easy process. It took an average of three takes for every scene before my team got the final shot. In addition to this, much improvisation was needed given our relatively generic storyboard. We were on a strict time limit, as this was shot during school hours, and the lunch bell would soon ring, flooding the filming space with more people. More people in the scene may have contributed to its natural feel, however it would have made the filming process more difficult as people would walk through the filming area. As such, we avoided this situation by filming at a quick pace before the lunch bell rang. After all of the shots were recorded, we went back to the classroom and I began the editing process. The editing software I used for this commercial was "iMovie", a free Apple software that is very simple and easy to understand. Though I have never edited before, moving the shots into order was as easy as drag and drop, and it was the first thing I did. After putting the shots in the correct order, I chose the music for the commercial. Since Apple usually uses light music, I decided to take that same route and chose the song "Passion" by PinkPantheress. This song is popular, so perhaps the commercial will be more recognizable because of it. After this was finished, my editing work for the next class is cut out for me: cutting shots together and adding the final touches.
