In the Editing Phase
Today was the first official day for editing. While I had edited before, this was a scheduled opportunity to make sure the commercial looked great. Since I am the designated editor, I took care of the minute details, like time. I had received input from my teammates, and this was useful because it is a group effort, and one mind to edit does not seem efficient. The project was already cut roughly to size, meaning that some trimming did have to be done. The problem I faced when editing today was the song. After playing back the commercial many times, I had noticed that the song didn't quite match up with the shots transitioning. So, using the drag and drop feature on iMovie, I moved the song to the right "location" under the frames and found a sweet spot. Surprisingly, the song went so well with the commercial that the frame of the Apple logo had transitioned at the perfect time, right when the drum beat drops. After this, my teammates and I looked for an Apple logo that was appropriate for the commercial. We had agreed on the Apple logo with varying colors, as it was not only appealing, but fit with the colorful presentation of the commercial as well. The next choice I had to make was the quote at the end of the commercial. Most Apple commercials have a quote that describes the product they are advertising right before the logo is put on display and the commercial ends. This quote was, in part, undecided. To relieve this issue, my team and I thought of what the MacBook was portrayed as in our commercial. Since the laptop was used by a student, and also used to listen to music, we decided the quote, "Made for all." would fit the best in this context. Now that all of this is done, the next editing session will be dedicated to making the final commercial flawless. This being my first experience editing, I can say it was not what I expected. The editing software, iMovie, was user-friendly, however getting it to do exactly what I wanted was difficult. This being said, I cannot wait for my next interaction with the commercial, I have taken a liking to editing a bit.
