Editing

After filming every part of the music video, all that was left to do was edit the scenes in place. As with the commercial project, the music video will also be edited with iMovie. I find this software to be the most user friendly, as it allows the use to drag clips and drop them in the video wherever the editor sees fit. It is designed for people who have not edited before, and so it is a perfect choice for someone who has very little experience editing like me. I am the designated editor of my group meaning that most of the responsibilities fall on me for the final product. As such, I am making sure to constantly keep in touch with my team, asking for their input. I began my editing today, and the first order of business was the song. I had downloaded the song "Good Days" to my computer, and this file was used for the song in the editing process. After that, all my scenes from the filming process had been transported onto the editing software, and certain additional scenes were placed there as well just in case I had decided to use them. At the end of the editing process, I will compare the final product to the storyboard, to see how many new ideas were added and how many ideas were taken out. The first scene was friends getting into the car, and after putting it in and watching, I had realized that a common action that would have to be taken would be cutting clips short. It seems like the scene of friends getting in the car would be too long for the audience to enjoy, so cutting the time on them would not be a bad idea. This, however, may cut the time of the entire music video short, but there will be no fear of this as my team and I collected more than enough good shots for the music video. Piecing together the footage was rather easy, as the footage was delivered to my computer in chronological order. So, this meant that all I had to do was select which shots to use, drag and drop them, and cut them to appropriate size. The scenes used easily produced a long film time, so a projected problem I foresee in the future is cutting the film down in order to meet our specific time limit. This problem will be easily solved however, as many scenes can be cut without taking away from the story of the music video. For example, waiting in line to get tickets is important to the story our music video tells, however it would be ok to trim it down so that it does not take up as much time in the video. So far, half of the music video is edited and tomorrow, the rest will be finished. It is then that the project will have its final touches and be completed!
