Genre Research: Ready or Not

"Ready or Not" is a thriller set in the classic mansion scene. This movie utilizes a setting very common to horror and thriller films, a dark and foreboding environment. Some of the elements I appreciate and hope to use are in this film. These include low lighting, non-diegetic sound effects, and an overall depressing presence. In my opening sequence, my vision is to include features like these to create a suspenseful environment. This vision can change however, and the reason for this would be the translation from idea to product. I may not want all of these features once I see the final product, and this has been accounted for. However, I have high hopes for the vision that has been made thus far. Some parts of the film that I will not include in my opening sequence, but was interested in nonetheless, included the following. The use of weapons, added a feeling of violence and risk to the film. The theme of "hide and go seek" really made the audience feel like they were the main character and were in that situation. There are certain elements, not just with "Ready or Not," but with thrillers in general that do not appeal to my taste. For one example, as stated in a previous blog, this film contains a point that leads up to the conflict. These time frames in thrillers are usually very lackluster, and do not carry much plot development. In my project, I will ensure that the buildup to this point is minimized. Also, the genre of thriller contains movies that include gore, however the appearance of gore is not appealing to me. What makes so many thriller movies impressive is their use of manipulating the emotions of the audience without special effects. While this cannot be accomplished every time, it sometimes is unsatisfactory seeing it in a thriller film. For this reason, my opening sequence will not contain gore of any sort. In order to accomplish my goal of making an unsettling scene, the only tactics that will be used is camera effects and sound design. "Ready or Not" was a great film to watch regardless, and my viewing of it has definitely helped me in my media project.

  "Run" is a movie that features a disabled teenage girl, running from her mother who kept her in isolation. This movie uses soft and low lighting, setting a dark, uninviting setting. It is common for thriller movies to have these things, due to their ability to drown out any form of happiness and make the scenes of the film unsettling. It is most noticeable by the audience because colors will be desaturated, environments will be dark, and shadows will carry a crucial part of the scene. I plan to use these features in my opening sequence, as it will help the audience ensure that this is indeed a thriller film.          My name is Jacob Pineiro, an eleventh grade student attending Fort Lauderdale High School. I have been interested in the film industry for quite some time now, and this is one of the reasons I enrolled in the AICE Media Studies class. While I do not intend to pursue a career in this industry, I have always found the film industry interesting for a few reasons. One of them being that, contrary to popular belief, editing and scene selection takes quite some time, and the "filming" process is not the entire production process. Commercial Blog

 So, the commercial is finally finished. The final product is something I am extremely proud of, and I have definitely expanded my knowledge of production. In addition to this, I have worked with a team, a great opportunity to gain cooperation skills. I have been responsible for the editing portion of the commercial, meaning that I have been exposed to using software like iMovie. Perhaps most important of all, I have increased my problem solving skills. Issues during filming like the lunch bell, and other people in the scene had to be solved quickly. I find this to be an extremely important skill, and I was happy to be exposed to it. The commercial itself has come together very nicely, and I feel as if my team and I did a great job. It represents what Apple MacBooks are: simple. The addition of small things like the quote are crucial to the commercial, so I'm glad I was able to add those in. In the end, production was a tedious journey, but the product was worth it.
