Final Task

 

At last, my final task: the opening sequence. This project has taken much time and effort from not only me, but also the participants that I have used in the film. It would not have been possible to finish a project of this scale without some help from my production participants. In addition, my friend that helped me review this film has given me much insight to the small things that I could not catch. I am extremely proud of this project, even though it's only two minutes long. In respect to my production experience, this project is huge. This project is the accumulation of many hours of filming, editing, and acting. A huge thanks goes to my camera woman, Eva Lopez. Without her, I would not have been able to film anything at all. For me, the biggest step that I took was in the editing process. I have become very familiar with iMovie, and this project was an extreme stepping stone to getting there. I am very excited to show my final work.

The Editing Process

  Editing is finished, and this blog will be describing the first part of the editing process. After filming was finished, the editing process was started and now all of my project work had shifted into computer work. The first thing I had to work on was the transitions. This is my third time using iMovie, and I still believe it is a great and easy to use software. However, a sudden realization was made early into editing. This was that the software would take lots of time and effort to figure out. The good thing is, there is a very easy solution to this problem. As I quickly figured out, there are many YouTube videos on how to use iMovie. These videos will provide a clear description as to what I need to do in order to get the visual effect I desire. For example, the first challenge faced by me when starting this project was getting the fade in from black and the fade to black that my project needed. Film Review

At this point, I have finished all editing for my project. However, rather than focus on the editing for this blog, I would like to talk about my film review. After finishing all my editing, I had decided that I was going to show my project to a friend. By doing this, I was able to gain insight on my project and how it would seem to a random viewer. In addition to this, I also asked this friend what they thought the genre of my opening sequence would be if they had to guess. I will share their feedback in this blog, and later I will share the editing process. The first thing that my friend had offered some input on was audio. After showing them the opening sequence, they quickly told me that the music that was in the opening sequence fit the scene, however it started at a point in which the music would end quickly, and that it would be better off if I had started the music at an earlier scene. This makes sense, and as I was being told this there was something important that I realized.

Finalizing the Commercial

      This is the final day to work on the commercial. The journey has been long, however I am proud of the final product. The parts I worked on today were moving certain frames around and changing their lengths. The challenge in today's editing was deciding which scenes needed to be longer and which scenes could be cut to a smaller size. The tracking shot, where the camera follows Lucy, was cut as it does not offer much information. On the other hand, the pan down on Willow was crucial to show the Apple logo, so shortening it was a last resort. In the middle of this process, I reached out to my instructor for assistance in deciding which shots should be a certain length. His advice was to do a split screen, where two actions are being executed at the same time. This advice was helpful, however there was a problem.
